1. Hi Neha, welcome to the interview session of Annie’s Blog .To start with, we would request you to tell us a few lines about yourself.

I started my career as a sports physiotherapist but I always had a fascination towards baking. I am one of the luckiest ones who is blessed with the opportunity of pursuing my passion as a profession.

2. How did you get started with baking? At what age did you bake your first cake?
I baked my first cake at the young age of 15 . This was after attending a basic baking class in my summer holidays.

3. How was your first baking experience?
I still remember the day very well. It happened in July 2012 on one of my friend’s birthday. Instead of buying the regular cake I decided to make one myself.

4. How did you learn baking?
I attended a basic cake and cookie class after my class 10th.This was to spend my free time in the holidays.

5. When did you decide to become a professional baker and start
your baking business? What was the inspiration behind the decision?

What worked in my favor was encouragement and appreciation from my friends and especially my family. My mom has always been my biggest inspiration in life. She used to head a small scale industry. I always loved the way she balanced her two kids and business. Last but not the least, my hubby and baby who have been a backbone of support. I started getting requests for special occasion cakes from friends and since then there has been no turning back. Now I am a full time professional home baker namely Chocolaty Choux.

6. Please tell us about your baking company Chocolaty Choux.

7. What are some of the challenging cake ideas that you performed till date?
Without any professional training every cake was initially a challenge. But I learnt and I could see I was getting better. My masterpiece till date has been my son’s first birthday jungle theme cake. The challenge now is not only the complexity of each order but also the increased scale of production. I am also saving each little creation for my little one.

8.What are some of the signature products of your company? Which one is your personal favorite?

Our signature products are  German chocolate cake, chocolate truffle cake, walnut brownies and death by chocolate jars. One of my all time favorite is German chocolate cake , Death by chocolate jars, brookies and brownies.

9. Being a baker, you must have had to overcome challenges. Please tell us about them.

Yes with so many talented people in this industry it is actually not easy to survive. With wide accessibility and networking. People have several options to pick from and select the best.

10. Narrate some of your success stories.
Being a self taught baker, every cake I bake is a success for me. My clients their feedback and  loads of thank you notes in my inbox is the success I value the most.

11. What plans do you have to scale your business operations?
I wish to set up a baking studio of my own one day where I could host some good baking and cake decorating classes. I wish to engage with Indian and foreign cake artists to share and learn more.

12. Your advice to those who wish to take up baking as a profession?

Just follow your instincts. Don’t expect quick success. Do what’s in your hand and leave the rest to god. There’s a saying that no one can stop what god has planned for you. Just be a bit more patient, sincere and take the feedback positively.

13. If you have had one wish
I am  already reasonably happy — but it would be nice to do some more traveling, build a baking studio and start an ngo to help poor.
